Alburgh & Denton Primary School

The local school in Alburgh which also serves the village of Denton is experiencing consideral traffic problems during arrival time inĀ  the mornings and pick uptime in the afternoon. The school is situated on a very narrow country road with very limited parking facilities. Currently some 60+ children attend the school, very few of whom live close enough to walk to school. Extensions are being built this year and next year they expect to have many more pupils. Isn’t it time that something was done to relieve the congestion?

  1. As a parent & a governor of Alburgh with Denton Primary school I am also extremely concerned about the safety of School Road.

I can completely understand how the residents must feel regarding the distruction of the verges & the congestion on the road, but as parents we have no choice but to park as near to the hedge as possible to avoid causing obstruction to other drivers or more importantly to keep our children safe.

Once parked we have to avoid being attacked by brambles & swomped in mud, and then attempt the walk of peril on the road trying to avoid being knocked over by a car!

We urgently need this problem addressed before a child is knocked over in the road.

There is no warning to other road users that they are entering a road which leads to a school (with people in the road!) and the speed restriction is 30mph & should be 20 (if not 10mph.)
This is a long standing issue which needs attention, especially as our school is deservedly growing, so the problem can only get worse.

    Yours sincerely, Petra How

  2. As a parent of six children of which two go to Alburgh with Denton Primary School i also agree with the comment that has been made by Petra How.

As the road is narrow and there is little parking spaces, parents have to park sometimes down at the other end of the road, that is a long way to walk when some parents including myself have to walk with more then one child and with a baby,
trying to keep your children safe from cars pulling out as you try to get in and out of your car.

Sometimes we need to get as close as we can to the school for the safety of the children.

But also most of the parents try to keep the school run as a one way route, but as its not posted as a one way street as I think it should become. other road uses don’t know this and it does course problems at drop off and pick up times. It really needs to be a one way system so we dont have to worry about cars pulling out both ways.

But the parking is a big problem that will become worse as the school numbers become bigger over the coming years.

As Petra has clearly stated something has to be done before a child is knocked over.

    Yours sincerely, lisa Chandler

  3. I completely agree with both of the above comments. This road is in dire need of a one way system and something definately needs to be done about proper parking facilities.

I think there should be allocated parking spaces for the taxis and also a couple of disabled spaces which should obviously be situated directly outside the front of the school.

There is enough verge space for the road to be widened all the way up which would eliminate the problem of the squidgy mud and if the hedges were trimmed often enough we would’nt have to put up with the brambles either!

    Yours faithfully, Gemma Remblance.
